Kurt, stay tuned to the main site, a great article about this topic is in the works and should be posted in the next few days (of course by Stijn, who else? )

Today I received a package from Hanseatisches-Auktionshaus; one of the items was EKI document for an NCO in Pz.Pio.Btl.59 in Cholm, dated 17 March 1942, signed by Scherer. Looks authentic, but of course there's a possibilty of being a fake, but it turned out to be a small problem because with it came a piece of newspaper:

This is the issue 269 of Nachrichtenblatt der Feldzeitung von der Maas bis an die Memel, dated 8 May 1942!

        cruell Akira

        Hello Akira,

You are very cruell, that is the least I can say => it is very good possible that it handle's about the same paper but it is also possible that it isn't, therefore we need to do some more research ( it seems very similar, etc ... ) .

I just browsed through their catalogue and I found the piece you are referring to => a looks like a original ( and for me highly disirable ) award document, + 2 nice signatures : From Theodor Scherer himself and from Freiherr von Bodenhausen ), I noticed however that von Bodenhausen's military rank is here : Major ( I tought he was a Oberstleutnant but there exists the possibility that he was promoted during his time in Cholm !!!!, Is there anyone who can check this please ? )

Akira please put me in your testimony for these Cholmrelated things as I willl always give them a very good home ( I promise )

Congrats on the very nice find.

        Cordial greetings,

We do share some luck, don't we? I have NEVER been able to touch Gebirgsjäger items from Cholm... Also, nothing from Feldregiment der LW 1...

Though highly unlikely, the piece of newspaper I have COULD be the piece the soldier has in his hand... Look at his brand-new EK I... This is our dream... When not thinking about the dark side...

            passions ..........

            Hi Akira,

Indeed we can call ourselves lucky in our seach for Cholm related items and I think we share both a extreme passion for that particular battle .

I agree regarding the newspaper and it is very good possible that it handle's about the same piece off paper => another very interesting point is that iff it is the same piece we can date the picture quite well, as the newspaper piece is dated 08.05.42 the picture could be taken at this day or very shortly after in Cholm !!!!! ( = after the opening of the encirclement ) .

Oh well we can allways dream and it seems that sometimes dreams can come true in a way, little for little we can gett a more complete vieuw of this battle ( including units, etc .. altough im relatively sure they will never be know exactly )

As mentioned in another post I was able to aquire a Jagdkdo. 8 Wehrpass with mentioning from Cholm, etc .... the only thing I do not know is => was this Jagdkdo complete in Cholm or where there also parts of it outside the pocket ?

Ps : Akira how did you like the translation page ?

            Cholm greetings,

OK, now that Stijn's fixed his article, I can operate a bit more freely

Here's the better picture of the first one for Jos.

                  Gen. Lt. Erpo Von Bodenhausen

                  Friends,

I can't really tell you too much about Bodenhausen. I once owned his uniform though. He was a Gen. Lt. and was in the Kurland pocket, where he was trapped by the Russians. Rather than being captured he shot himself, thus the Russian forces did not get the satisfaction. I hope this information helps!

                    Freiherr von Bodenhausen

                    Hello,

THanks for your research my friend but it is not this von Bodenhausen we are searching after => the one you are referring towards ( Erpo Freiherr von Bodenhausen ) was his brother .
