War Memorial Painting for Zeppelin L59 - Reichskolonialbund - Thoughts?

Hey guys...

I grabbed this on a whim...thinking it was a print.

Turns out it is an original art piece (you can see all the brush strokes, and feel the texture of the paint).

It is a war memorial item, that i "think" was made by (or for) the Reichskolonialbund...but I have never seen another like it.

Any thoughts or ideas into the purpose of this?

Very nice piece and would look great professionally framed.

I came across a poster several years ago at auction and only
realised once I had received it that it was in fact the original
artwork as well.

Indeed a very nice "War Memorial" of the sailing of Airship L59 in 1917 -- "Zeppelin LZ 104 (construction number, designated L 59 by the German Imperial Navy) and nicknamed Das Afrika-Schiff ("The Africa Ship"), was a World War I German dirigible, famous for attempting a long-distance resupply mission to the beleaguered garrison of Germany's East Africa colony." Wikipedia has a good recap of her historic journey, and you can find other versions by Googling "Airship L59."

The Reichskolonialbund was headed by Reichsleiter General Franz von Epp and was an effort to regain the overseas colonies lost by Germany at the end of WWI -- hence the tie-in with this piece of history.
