Hello,
Today I acquired this pretty document. The "Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1.10.1938" was awarded to Unteroffizier Ernst Kleist of Kampfgeschwader 26.
Kleist was born on 02.03.1913 in Vettenbüttel, Schleswig-Holstein. His last rank would be Feldwebel in 1942. Feldwebel Kleist died on 08.12.1942 in Pitomnik, Stalingrad, where his Ju 52 of the San.Flugbereitschaft 3 was shot down by Russian Fighters. Ernst Kleist was the Mechanic on Board. All men of the crew were KIA.
Kleist was 29 years old.
This document is signed by later Oberst Joachim von Busse, who was an WW1 Flying Ace with 11 Victories. In 1945 Joachim von Busse was commander of the Insterburg airfield in East Prussia. He committed suicide after his men had demolished all installations on the site.
Thanks Kevin for the Info on Kleist!
All the Best,
Nicolas
