    Spange Document May

Just received this EKII spange document awarded to Haupmann Willi May along with other documents. One of the documents is a 1943 calendar book with notations for almost everyday of the year. I have included one page and would appreciate if someone could translate for me. Thank you, Jim

        Hello !

Very nice document and photo. Thanks for sharing !

Regarding the notebook page, there is not much to translate :
It is a list of names, with either address or Feldpostnr. :

Gefr. Jos. Frings, Wehrmachtsamt Aachen, Eupenstr.
        Ob.gefr. Hasberg L20819 LG P.[Postamt] Brüssel
        Soldat Hautermann 45532 B
        Obgefr. W. Hilgers 03897
        __"___ Lauscher 19872
        __"___ Sieck(?), ? 23814 D
        Uffz. K. Carstens, Ortskommandantur Riga

        -------------------

Sicherungs-Btl. 1224 (O) was raised end of August 1944 in Wehrkreis VI
and was commanded by Hauptmann May from the beginning perhaps to the very end.
As Gerdan mentioned, (O) is a shortcut for Ohren (ears), it consisted to a large degree of men
with ear ailments. This does not apply to most of the officers and NCOs, which however during
the time of formation had to learn how to deal with the impairment of their soldiers.
[There was a somehow similar group of units marked with (M), M for Magen (stomach ailments).]

In Dec. 1944, Sich.Btl. 1224(O) was under control of II.Fallschirm-Korps, in early Dec.
in an area controlled by HQ Div.Nr. 606 (led by Gen.maj. Goltzsch, CP: Brüggen),
roughly between Roermond and Venlo. This explains the stamp and the signature.

From late December 1944 onward, it was deployed further North, in the area of Kleve,
        under command of Div.Nr. 190. In January, 1945 it had a strength of 9 Offc./ 484 NCOs and E.M.

        Thanks again and best regards,

        Archi
