    War Merit Cross Document Opinions?

    Hello,

I'd like to solicit opinions on the authenticity of this Kriegsverdienstkreuz document, which was ostensibly awarded to an Untersturmführer attached to Einsatzgruppe D.

It seems to me that extra caution is warranted in this case, since that kind of attribution is sure to inflate the value of a relatively common document. Was assignment to these formations typically reflected on award documents?

Additionally, is anything known about this individual in the public record? A cursory internet search turned up nothing.

Thank you as always for any input!

Thanks, Hank. Any particular details that stand out to you, or just a general impression?

I don't really care for the signature, the document itself looks too new (although when dealing especially with posthumous awards, it happens), and the writing next to the awardee's name saying he died & where on the front.

Goodness knows I've been plenty wrong before...hopefully somebody else will add a thought or two.
