Knights Cross Winner colorized postcard -- 1944 -- Johannes Letter

Wanted to share my latest addition...what I think is a beautifully "hand-tinted" period postcard, signed by Knights Cross Winner Johannes "Hanns" Lutter. Signed in his hand, I believe, and addressed to, who else, but a girl!

Lutter was born in 1912, and died in 2004. He was a Luftwaffe Ace, and won the KC early, in October '41, serving as an Oberfeldwebel and pilot in II/Schnellkampfgeschwader 210. Would love to have more details about the events that led to his being awarded.

As I understand, he was ultimately credited with 12 aerial victories, and the destruction of 15 tanks and 30 aircraft on the ground. I believe that he flew Fw 190's and ME110's.

At the time of this postcard, he was serving in Italy, with SG 4 (Schlachtgeswader 4). I'm not aware of his service after his time in Italy, and how or where he ended the war. After the war, I believe that he served in the Bundeswehr until 1971.

Would appreciate any comments, corrections, or additions. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't look like Lutter. I think this is Hans Luhr.

Do you have a photo of Luhr to compare, Daniel?

                    Definitely not Lutter: http://das-ritterkreuz.de/index_sear...rchword=Lutter

                    Could well be Luhr: http://das-ritterkreuz.de/index_sear...earchword=Luhr

Thank you, Thomas. This is a bit of a mystery for me. Any other input?

The vendor that this postcard came from purported the card to be from Italy, which is where Lutter was stationed in fall '44.

As for Luhr, if I'm reading the reverse of the postcard correctly, it says "October 1944". Luhr was killed in September.

                      Help!

Well I have downloaded the same photo , who knows from where, but without the colorization and it was named Hans Luhr. And I think you should read it as "Osten 1944"

                          Or probably "Ostern 1944".

I agree "Ostern" = Easter (Easter Sunday was on the 9th of April in 1944)

                            Regards, Thomas

                              Thomas,

You are correct regarding the translation. My ignorance. Thank you.

I'm still not sure what to think about the identity, however. Any other pictures of Luhr?

                              Thank you!
