    SS IAB document with questions

Hi. I have a document grouping of a soldier of the Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung 5.
In the grouping is an award document for the IAB in bronze. This document was given by the SS Panzer Grenadierregiment "Der Führer" signed by Sylvester Stadler.
This soldier never was in the SS and on the document is written his Army rank " Gefreiter" .
Has anyone further informations about the use of soldiers from the Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung 5 in the SS Panzer Grenadierregiment " Der Führer" ?

Wrong decoration and wrong unit off the face of it. However, you need to do some more research. I had a quick look at the general movements of DR and the 5 Pz.Div. and both divisions came under the XXXXVI Pz.Korps for a time during the winter of 41/42. At that time DF was a motorised infantry regiment so a bronze ISA would be correct, though Pz.A.A.5 was Kradschutzen Btl.55 at the time.

this award could be a case of 'catch up' paperwork, individual soldiers who were with a unit for a time then moved on or a unit that was responsible for an award and had other external units temporarily attached to it could take years to sort out awards like this. I've even seen Ostmedaille awards as late as 1945 due to soldiers moving around different units.

if you have other documentation on this soldier it might help clear up what happened.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Hi. Yes, he was at the Kradschützen Bataillon 55 . The unit changed in late 1943.
