GEBIRGSjager regiment 16 ?

Hello, this photo I have shows an obvious Gebrigsjager man, however the thing I cant work out is that his shoulder strap button has an obvious "16" on it. The shoulder strap also appears to have 16 embroidered on it.
There was no 16th gebrigs regiment as far as I know.
Any ideas.
