Hi all
here you see some really rare photos of a B-17 crash site in Switzerland during World War II. The site is just about 15 Minutes from where I live and my Mom always told me about that crash. She was at the site at that time to see what was going on. It was February 27th 1945 at 03:00 P.M. when a US B-17 was severly hit by Swiss fighter pilots and crashed near the town of Trimbach. The radio code was "Mickey 4" and the Bomber belonged to the 15th Air Force/97th Bomber Group. All pilots could jump out the plane and survived the crash.
After bombing raids over Germany there have been more US Bomber crashs on the same day. In Celerina in the County of "Graubuenden" a B-25, and near the town of Adligendwil in the county of Zurich a B-24.
On the same day there have been some emergency landings of a B-24 near Altenrhein in the county of St. Gallen and a B-17 and 4 B-24 at the town of Duebendorf where a swiss air force base was set and still is.
On the pic you see the crash site secured by the Police and firebrigade of Olten and Trimbach ( Olten is just the town next to Trimbach).
