Rare Early Card 'Consuming Flame' of Un-German Books

    Hi everyone,

Here's an early card that I had never seen/had before being able to purchase this example recently.

I hope that you find it interesting as well

Hi John - I have never seen it before either and it looks like a real keeper. Any way to tell what year it was produced?

        My guess would be 1933.
I've never seen this one before either. Very interesting!

I agree with Erich B. in both of his points: I too have never seen this card before, and I believe it represents the symbolic "burning of un-German books" that was orchestrated by Dr. Goebbels via the German Student Union throughout Germany on the night of May 10, 1933. In Berlin, this act of symbolic "liberation and cleansing" took place for the benefit of the students of Berlin University, across the Unter den Linden from the school's main campus, in the Bebelplatz, the Opernplatz, with Goebbels himself haranguing the crowds there.

I've seen it , and missed my opportunity to buy it at the last Stade auction... The card is definitely antisemitic in nature...

Very nice card that evokes that period in history without subtlety
