      Hi,

this is one of the hundreds of books published for the German youth before WWII.

Complete title is : "Deutsche Jugend, eine Heimatfibel für Stadt und Land".
This is the 4th edition, dating probably from 1937 (5th edition is from 1938).
The 4th and 5th editions at least have the nice illustration on the front cover (previous editions did not),
but the original book and content seemed to be from 1931, before the rise of Hitler.

Author is Jakob Dieterich, a writer specialized in school books.

It has no direct link with the HJ.

More infos in German about the "books for the youth" here :

The front cover illustration is cool, but the content is probably quite average, and in my opinion the price is clearly overpriced.
It should be a bit stupid to purchase a book only due to the "cool" cover...

      See You

Thank you for the fast response.
What is an average price for this book?
I did look at the contents and it appears to be teaching children how to write their cursive letters.
There is a photo of Hitler in the front which leads me to believe that it was published after he took power.

          Hi,

yes this 4th edition (it seemed) was released in 1937.
For marketing (more than ideological) purposes, the title and front cover was modified to be more "national-socialist", like for many many books published in Germany after 1933.

The problem is that the content is of average (if not low) interest.

I always suggest to dismiss the prices proposed on Zvab, Booklooker, Abebooks, OD43 and usmbooks, as they are clearly overpriced (the fact that the books are still listed "for sale" - sometimes for years - is a good proof of that).

Depending on your interest in a) the Third Reich b) Hitlerjugend c) propaganda, i will say that you may find far better looking and interesting books, usually with more pictures.
For 175 usd, you can get for example a few Hoffmann pictural books in Europe.

The 1931 edition is available on Booklooker for... 9.99 euros.

I don't think that a picture of Hitler + a nice illustration on the front cover is worth a so expensive price.

          See You
