    help with nahkampf paper please

    hello

Just got this in, but know very little about it.
The thing that caught my attention was the date. It seems this person Uffz. Armin Damminger was fighting on the last days of the war. My guess is in Berlin?

    So what do I see:

1.Btl. Widmar => more info known on that?

Dem Fhj Armin Damminger => whats Fhj?

And the names Burgmauser Wr.- Neustadt?
    Marschgraben
    ....

Does anybody can read the signer and who it is?

Whats a paper like this worth?

Thanks for any help that can be giving on my paper.

    Best regards
    Nick

Hi Nick, I can help you with "Fhj". This is his rank of "Fahnenjunker", or an NCO who was an officer candidate.

Note that the stamp confirms he was part of a cadet school

I think he might have been fighting in Austria?

      Cheers, Ade.

It's not 1. Btl but 1 Kompanie Btl. Widmar or Widmer. You notice it's signed by an Oberleutnant und kompanie Führer. Very often the Germans put together units and battlegroups and gave them the names of their commanders.
The stamp seems to be from an officer cadet school.

As for where, that first entry says Wiener Neustadt, that's in East Austria. A bit of googling and you'll find some of the other placenames.

Nice document....I have a Soldbuch with similar entries.
This document obviously confirms that the Fahnenjunker Lehrgang/Schule was used in combat.
No doubt they were NCO's with combat experience.

Schule II für Fahnenjunker der Infanterie was formed during 1942 in Wiener Neustadt, Wehrkreis XVII. February 1945 890 men from Lehrgangs 18 B and Cadre (25 %) formed Grenadier (Führernachwuchs-) Regiment 1236 and 1238, the remains formed Gneisenau Kampfgruppe 2/XVII.

With orders from 3.2.1945 until 8.2. the following were formed Gneisenau Kampfgruppen 2/XVII Wiener-Neustadt (Schule II für Fahnenjunker der Infanterie) and 5/XVII Linz (Grenadier I./133), Grenadier-Regimenter 1236 and 1239.
They were made available for combat around Vienna then most probably used as 2-4 Company heavy Kampfgruppen

              Hi,
Wiener Neustadt is located about 50-80 kilometers south of Vienna.
The Theresianische Militärakademie (Austrian Army Cadettschool since 1752)
is located in Wiener Neustadt and was also used during the second WW.
By the Way Rommel was the first commander of the school after the Anschluss.
At the End of WW2 the Fahnenjunker were formed to a Alarmeinheit and fought against the incoming russians. Hauptmann Rudolf Kirchschläger, who would become later teh President of Austria), was one of their commanders.
I find this document really interesting, because I'm currently cadett at the Militärakademie.
              Cheers
              Christoph
