    General identification needed

This photo was taken in Åndalsnes, Norway. I believe no earlier than mid 1943 (another photo of the same general shows other officers wearing the M43 feldmütze).

The back of the photo is captioned Generalleutnant Rein, but i can't seem to square that with his career history.

    Any ideas?

    Simon,

    1) He is not Siegfried Rein
    2) He is not Karl Rhein

    Cheers,

    Jaime

I was thinking perhaps Rudolf Dinter, commander of the 295 Inf.Div. between april 43 and the end of july 44. That would fit in terms of timeframe and location. I also see a resemblance based on the very few photos i've seen of him. He also definitely had the 1914 EKI but the 39 spange is not recorded, not that it means he didn't have it.

        Hi Simon,

Of all Generals related to Norway, yesterday I was thinking on Rudolf Dinter too after ruling out the "Rein case". Well, here you have the confirmation:

        Rudolf Dinter (295. Infanterie-Divsion) und Alexander Möckel (Grenadier-Regiment 517)

By the way, Dinter is wearing the Spange zum EK I and the Ostmedaille.

        Cheers,

        Jaime

If you're interested,... Erroneously identified as Rudolf Bamler, but the fact he is Otto Schönherr Edler von Schönleiten, als Kommandant der Festung Stavanger.
