    Identifiying shoulder board

Hi, i have this photo of two brothers, one in the Waffen-ss and the other in the Heer.

The heer one has a gothic letter and a number on the shoulder board. I think the letter is the "B" and the number 33. They have a colour different from white, but the waffenfarbe on the feldmutze is clearly in white colour. Someboy has any explanation of this?

Any info will be appreciated, thanks.

The cap was borrowed for the photo perhaps. B 33 would fit as there was a Beobachtungs abteilung 33.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

      Thanks!

I think a borrowed cap is a good possibility, because the waffenfarbe of the litzen are not white.

The borrowed cap theory always pops up when any other explanation could not be found - but that would mean the soldier walked around without headgear, or with a helmet. Both not very possible.

However the straps have red Waffenfarbe and the cap white. Sometimes you see soldiers wearing caps from other military services in studio shots. Somewhere I have two studio shots of two different LW soldiers, both wearing the same distinctive M-43 cap (so evidently one of them showed up with no cap).

I think that this could be the best explanation.

              Thanks to all.
