1,000 Feldpost letters and replies. Any ideas as to value please? Any help would be most appreciated.
I have just acquired a very large collection of Feldpost letters – virtually all are from the Russian Front, more or less from the start of the Russian campaign right to the end – then there are some which continue as a prisoner after the war. The letters are a continuous written contact between the soldier and his mother. I have not counted them all, and have only looked into a few – but as mentioned above there are approximately 1,000 in all - that I do know as I counted them roughly in 'stacks'.
The general condition of the vast majority is very good, the writing is clear and sharp and can be clearly read. The letters themselves are not waterstained, ragged or torn, or dirty as is often the case, - they are more or less as they originally were when they were opened – but they are all over 70 years old.
This collection which covers the Russiancampaign pretty well from start to finish and then parts of the year after the war would be the perfect material (possibly in the form of a diary) for anyone interested in compiling a book based on the campaign from the point of view of the ordinary Wehrmacht soldier and what he went through over four years.
What would a collection like this be worth? Any ideas? I have often seen small numbers of Feldpost for sale but never a complete collection in these numbers.
