Just to be a little more exact it is a 'copy-negitive'

So it is a picture of a picture not an 'original' picture of someone.

You can tell as the image is little foggy and you can see the border of the original print.

Now it does not mean this is a 'fake'.

This would of been a common practice when many copies of a photo are
required or in some printing processes or when the original negative is not available.

This is a period neg and a good example of why archives wear white gloves. The large smudge is from a finger-print after many years of the skin-oil of a single touch reacting with the gelatin of the neg emulsion.

What smudge? Also the image is not foggy its my photgraphic skills, I dont have a scanner to show it properly and my camera is a bit crap.

The big black mark in the positive and white in negative on his left shoulder is from a finger-print is a smudge. Comes from improper handling many years ago. I know it is old as soft emulsion glass copy plates have not been made since the early 50s

'Foggy' or 'Muddy' in this sense means an over all lack of edge to edge contrast. Have a look at this 'Glass-plate' you will see even though it is a scanned image it still has better edge to edge contrast.

Like I said before dose not means this is a fake just a period copy neg.

If you looked at the photos you will see the mark is only the reflection on the lights when I was trying to photo the slide.
