Oberjäger Franz Vogel died 29.6.44 i found him at ,german wargraves commision´s home page, but either my document or the war graves commision have made a spelling mistake, because i found him under the name Oberjäger Franz vogl.

          Gedenkblatt

Not each unit dispatched this kind maps.
As one however to see knows is it a tradition unit.
I have some in the collection, everything only units with tradition.
Very well your map pleases me.
It would be something to the placing into my collection.
          Greeting

This is sort of a death card but it came from the unit the soldier was serving in as opposed to death cards which are printed by the funeral parlor on behalf of the family. In this case the unit has had these cards pre-printed and when a soldier was killed, they would fill out the name and date and someone would signed it in the signature block on the Div Komd.

In regards to the missing 'e' in the name (vogl or vogel), you are right in assuming a mistake has been made either at the unit or the place or records. My gut feeling is the unit would be right (Vogel) as they knew him personally. Having said that, a division on average in 10000 strong and it is easier for an adjutant to mis-spell the soldiers name. I have a number of death cards, death documents, ansprache etc of the same soldier that contradicts each other through mistakes.

How common are these cards. Well they are around but not as often as death cards. They are varied in size, layout and format because each unit designed their own. BTW I don’t know if every unit produced them either.

Value - Can’t say, A GJ collector may pay twice as much as another collector. I have purchase these types of cards before as little as a couple of Euro. If I had to say a value, I would say around $15 - 30US because there is no photo and it has not been signed properly...but this is a guess with the above in mind.

              I hope this helps.

              Kind regards
