Can someone please assist identifying the location of these photos I believe to be in France during 1940. The soldier was in 'Feld recruits Schützenkompanie 140' or 'Landesschutzen Feldersatzbataillon 5', not sure what these units service roles were (if someone could explain). Did what appears to be a tour of the French battle field. The monument has AVX BOVLONNATS ROVAL FRANCE, but i can't identify, could be round Burgundy? regards graeme

Hi,
the wharf is the one of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Monument aux Boulonnais morts pour la France :

The Church is l'église St Pierre, which was destroyed on June 15, 1944 (the city was bombed over and over during the war).
See You

Hi,
yes Graeme, as shown in the old postcard this is the Church.
Pictures were taken at the end of May 1940, the city fall on May 25, 1940.
5,000 allied soldiers were taken prisoners while 5,000 others were able to escape to the UK by sea.
Other pictures of the same location from old postcards.
See You
Vince
