    Copywriting of photos

I don't collect phots per se. but I make Dritte Reich screensavers for my own use, and search the net often for pics. I notice a lot of websites have the photos overstamped "Copywrited" by ect.
Question. How does one copywrite a photograph taken by someone else long before that person was even born, and purchased probably from a third party? Not complaining or anything, just curious,
    Best regards,
    Johnnie

In short: copyright does not apply for photographs taken during World War II, but right of ownership applies, so the owner can do anything he wants to prevent others from using the picture for other purposes.

      Thank you Akira,
I didn't think one could copywrite old photos, but the right of ownership would give one the right to overstamp them on their web page.
      Best regards,
      Johnnie
