The boy on tthe far left with the KC is my 89 yo friend Helmut F. At 17 yo Helmut was conscripted into the LW where he trained as a gunner/radio operator on a H-111. Given the lateness of the war, few aircraft, and no gasoline, he was transferred to a flak unit outside of Aachen where he was a forward observer. As an observer he was wounded in the ankle by Canadian forces and received the EK II & black wound badge. He immigrated to the USA in 1948 and went to work for GM, retiring after 35years.
Helmut's father was a carpenter and made all the rifles, bayonets, and medals the boy's used in their play. I think it's a very cool picture.
