Can anyone tell me what kind of unit 3.(F)/13 was and where they were stationed in May 1944? Thanks.

Hi Mike,
Looks like a long range recon. group (Fernaufklärungsgruppe) to me. However, I could not find a reference to this specific unit.
Maybe this one?

3.(F)/13
Mike, the 3.(F)/13 did not exist.
The Fernaufklärungsgruppen or FAGr were six, four of them used numbered gruppen, the others used named gruppen for example (F)/Nacht
As in other Auklärungs units, the staffeln or/and gruppen was interchange between them.
FAGr 1 used Gruppen 11-14-22-33-120 and 122
FAGr 2 used Gruppen 11-14-100-121 and 122
FAGr 3 used Gruppen 22-31-100 and 121
FAGr 4 used Gruppen 10-11-22-33-121-122 and 123
As you can see the Gruppe 13 did not exist.
May be you can talk about 3.(H)/13.
Regards
Roberto

It seems that I overlooked a spot on the photo that covers one of the unit numbers! Sorry for the confusion. If you would like to view the back of the photo to try to figure out the unit, please click on http://www.authenticmilitaria.com/_p.../1944photo.jpg . Thank you for all the help!

Rick, thank you for the information. The actuall photo does show Luftwaffe officers with some wearing the Kriegsmarine Minesweeper badge! This is the reason I am trying to figure out what unit and where it was stationed. It may be possible that this Luft unit was taking part in minesweeping dutied.

Dual Commissions
Mike:
There were instances of some officers holding dual commissions and jumping from Kriegsmarine duty to Luftwaffe duty as requirements dictated. Often times they earned badges from both services.
A good example is Richard Bulla from Atlantis. During his career he was assigned duties as a Luftwaffe officer and pilot and at other times as a Kriegsmarine officer.

Hi Mike,
I think you may have photos of members of Minensuchgruppe Mausi/ Minensuchgruppe 1. They were the only LW Minesweeping unit (using converted Ju52's). I have a large group to an observer in this unit. They all were awarded the KM Minesweeper Badge.
However, I still do not know what your unit number means as it was not used by Minensuchgruppe 1! A little mystery, indeed!
