Is this a shrine or pride or sadness?

Any opinions on whether this is a shrine to remember the death of a son, or simply pride in his service and awards?

    Thanks
    Jason

I think it is a rememberance corner.

Although there is no black ribbon on the photos as I've often seen.

The white flowers represent purity and the circle of life.

The guys EK2 medal is in the corner which I would think would remain in the personal effects of the soldier.

All the photos look to be of the young man in various stages of service ( including RAD?).
I would say son rather than husband as there are no wedding photos.

Christ in the corner is not unusual in european houses at this time especially in the South.

A good illustration of how a man dying for any country has a deep impact on those at home.

Thanks for the input guys. This photo came from a 3-album set covering the career of the soldier in the shrine. The third album ends with a whole load of grave pics, each photo showing the grave of other soldiers in the same unit. After searching through the preceding albums, I think I found the name of the shrine soldier. A search of Volksbund produced one result, a soldier born in 1919 who was MIA at Stalingrad. I'm 95% certain that this is my guy.

So, it seems the shrine is to a missing soldier.

            Jason,

Did you check the DRK vermisstenbildliste? If he was MIA his picture may be listed there.

No doubt that the soldier is dead, the photos on the wall are framed in black colour.

                Hi Jared,

Indeed, I checked the DRK VBL for his company and battalion, but he's not listed. He may have been transferred to another unit within his division. Until I find it, I cannot close this case.

                Thanks

Fantastic, this is exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks very much for your input. I guess in 1943 a soldier who was MIA Stalingrad was considered as good as dead.
