Must be taken early because nothing to see from the start of building the U Boot Bunker ( later should be on the foreground )

    Naval Monument at Brest

Here to see a rare image of the Naval Monument at Brest , taken in 1940/41,
    format ig size 24 x 18 cm
    - Agfa Brovira Fotokarton - seidenmatt -

before it was demolished in july 1941- on the foundation the germans constructed a bunker.

In 1958 the Monument was rebuild according to the original plans.

the whole history you'll find here:

    https://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries-memo...t#.VpJL_E-J1Vj

look at the angle of the colored image below, almost the same one ( image one of their page ) as the orig one out of the former years , before demolished.

Now it's a little curious because the American Battle Monuments Commission statet on their website:

Quote: " .....the original monument built on this site to commemorate the achievements of the U.S. Navy during World War I was destroyed by the Germans on July 4, 1941, prior to the United States entry into World War II....."

          https://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries-memo...t#.VpKov0-J1Vj

the man who had taken this picture at that time - he served there at the KM FA 803 ( later 812 in La Rochelle/ Ile d'Re) - so he was live locally and wrote on the reverse of his image:

" Amerika-Denkmal: Von den Engländern durch Bombenabwurf zerstört, vorher schon einmal bomardiert. "

( America monument: destroyed by the British by bombing, once previously already bombed. )

Here to see also the damages of the honor plate:

          and detail :

Now the question: what is true ??? - who destroyed the monument ( at first ) ??

The germans. Really destroyed the monument. German propaganda said it was the rResult of a british bombing.
