From his personal file you posted earlier, his service in Africa with 15. Panzer-Division was with Divisions-Nachschub-Führer 33. In southern France 1944, he served with Felderzatz-Battailon 200, assigned to 21. Panzer-Division.
This unit was stationed in Condé-sur-Noireau not far from Villers-Bocage in June 1944. Major Adolf Sommer was awarded the german cross in gold 27.04.1945, while commanding that unit.
From one of the pics posted, you can see the numeral "7" on one of the shoulder straps. Matches with his service in Kraftfahr-Ersatz- und Ausildungs-Ateilung 7.

Very nice!
It is his recommendation for the EKI for destroying 3 armored reccon vehicles - 1 with the 2cmm self propelled flak and 2 with grenades. He also took one of the still usable armored vehicles with him .

He received the Iron Cross first class for this action - but he did qualify for 3 TDB's. (His later request for the TDB's was not granted.)

I guess if no other military archives can be contacted to get more info about Treptau, then the only possibility would be to get in contact with some of his relatives (his son might be still alive or grandchildren if he had some). There is a big time hole which remains a big mystery but we might get to the end of that also. Without getting some more info about this missing months all statements are all just guessing.

A long article is being prepared I just need to forward more files that i got from NARA. I will keep you updated.

PS: Anybody in Germany who might dig up his living relatives?

And anybody knows if there is a military archive in France?
