    Landwachtposten Gun Licence.

Would this licence be held by the a Volkssturm member as the translation would appear to mean Home Guard? And why would you need a licence anyway ?

This has nothing to do with the Volkssturm. This service ID is for a auxiliary Policeman. In this position, they sometimes didn't need to carry a weapon.

Thanks Jeff, it was the translation of landwachtposten, home guard, that made me connect to Volkssturm, your help is appreciated

This is a fine example of a Landwacht Ausweis for a member of the Rural Police Auxillary created in 1943 to assist the regular police (Gendarmerie) secure order in the countryside. The Stadtwacht performed the same in metropolitan areas. Both services wore no uniform, only a brassard and perhaps in the case of the Landwacht, a pin identifying Landwacht and a police eagle. Empowered with police authority, these auxiliaries carried firearms to enforce their authority. Both services were eliminated with the creation of the Volkssturm.
