    Emil Maurice Mein Kampf.

    Hello all.

Here is something very special I have just added to my collection. Its an MK given to Emil Maurice by Karl Fiehler - Mayor of Munich. It was specially made for Maurice with the page basically giving thanks for his service to Munich and the NSDAP.

Emil Maurice was SS member number 2 and a founder member of the organization. Strangely he was of mixed German Jewish descent. As Heinrich Himmlers power increased he tried to dismiss Maurice from the SS, Hitler stood by his old comrade and allowed Maurice to stay in his position. A little history below courtesy of Wikipedia:

Emil Maurice (19 January 1897, Westermoor – 6 February 1972, Munich) was an early member of the National Socialist German Workers Party and a founding member of the SS. Together with Erich Kempka, he served as one of Hitler's personal chauffeurs. Unusually, he was one of the few mischlings (a person of mixed Jewish and ethnic German ancestry) to serve in the SS.

After Hitler's release from prison, the Nazi Party was officially re-founded. In 1925, Hitler ordered the formation of a new bodyguard unit, the Schutzkommando (protection command). It was formed by Julius Schreck and included old Stoßtrupp members, Maurice and Heiden. That same year, the Schutzkommando was expanded to a national level. It was renamed successively the Sturmstaffel (storm squadron), and finally on 9 November the Schutzstaffel (abbreviated to SS). Hitler became SS member No.1 and Emil Maurice became SS member No. 2. At that time, Maurice became an SS-Führer in the new organization, although the leadership of the SS was assumed by Schreck, the first Reichsführer-SS. Maurice became Hitler's chauffeur.

He reportedly had a brief relationship with Hitler's niece, Geli Raubal, which led to his dismissal as Hitler's chauffeur.

When the SS was reorganized and expanded in 1932, Maurice became a senior SS officer and would eventually be promoted to the rank SS-Oberführer. While Maurice never became a top commander of the SS, his status as SS member #2 effectively credited him as an actual founder of the organization. Heinrich Himmler, who ultimately would become the most recognized leader of the SS, was SS member #168.

The MK is signed by Fiehler in ink. A little history below:

Karl Fiehler (31 August 1895 - 8 December 1969) was a German politician of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) and Lord Mayor of Munich from 1933 until 1945.
I obtained the book through the family of Emil Maurice - I am not a collector of SS items generally as you may know, but this will fit nicely into my collection.

          Hello Dave,

interesting, so you still have contact with the Maurice family ?

Can you ask them about this mostly pimped and faked lots previously proposed by various auction houses, including the ultra fake Blutorden prototype ?

Does the family remember that an early Mein Kampf (in two volumes) was proposed in those auctions ?

When I first saw the headline 'Emil Maurice Mein Kampf' I thought 'Oh no one more dubious item from Maurice estate'...
But in fact this MK looks like a great piece of history. Congrats Dave
I agree with Vince: It would be VERY interesting to know if the family is aware of the recent sale of many fake items attributed to Emil Maurice : the 2 MK supposedly dedicated by AH, the fantasy blood order n° 0, etc.

Thank you for your continuing comments.

This MK was held by Hedwig Maurice (nee Ploetz) - wife of Emil, up to her death in 2003 at the old age of 92. It was then passed to close Family and has never appeared on the open market.

I have never mentioned to them regarding other items from the Maurice estate, as I feel it would be too sensitive subject for all involved.

A letter came with the MK stating its history which is very straight forward, as only a few hands have ever been involved.

              Regards to all.

              Dave Holden.

This is really neat, Thanks for sharing this!

One question I have though is that Maurice was SS Nr.2 and was a mischling and then with Heydrich's rumoured Jewish mischling doesnt that make the whole idea of the only 'full aryan' SS force seem a little redundent?

For a force that prided itself on being fully aryan and had pretty strict entry criteria it seems redundent to me.

                      Hi,

a lot of Waffen-SS were mischlinge and some won the Ritterkreuz, and the Wannsee conference was unable to resolve the mischling question.

The recent biographies prove that Heydrich (SS Nr. 3) was not jew.
Or did i miss something ?

Thank you for your comments Gentlemen.

In my opinion the Aryan beliefs really were enforced once Heinrich Himmler became the Reichsführer SS. The early days of the SS were certainly different with regards to their intended duties and founding values - just my thoughts on it.

                        Cheers

                          Hi,

the Longerich biography of Himmler and the recent works on the SS ideology and training clearly show that a great gap existed between the "rules" and beliefs that Himmler wanted for the SS, and the actual situation (including all the cases that Himmler was directly involved for). This was especially the case for the aryan myth, who after the start of Barbarossa started to be carefully destroyed brick by brick (effective relations with non-aryans, but more importantly the recruitment of hundred of thousand of "Untermenschen" in the WH/Waffen-SS).

Heydrich was not SS Nr.3 His number when he joined the SS was Nr.10120

Hitler was SS Nr.1 and Maurice was SS Nr.2, Himmler was NSDAP Nr.14303.
