How reads the unit stamp?
23. Jnf. Div. ? 73. Jnf. Div.?
The 502 G.R. belonged to the 290. ID, but of course I'm sure you already know this. Probably the regiment was temporary attached to another division for some time in late 1943.

The stamp is for the 23 Infanterie-Division and while the dates are slightly 'out' von Mellenthin did hold temporary command of that division in September 1943.

Iron it seems to me a 290 ID stamp. Surely von Wallenthin was temporary the commander of the unit at that time ("M.d.F.b.").

I see that both 23. and 290. IDs were in the Newel area in late 1943. And both in the I Armeekorps - 16. Armee.
So it's well possible that the stamp is actually from the 23. ID and that the G.R.502 was temporary attached to this division for some reason.

It's definitely a 23 ID stamp. If you zoom in you can clearly make out the '3'.

I've looked at the doc, and yes, it is definitely a 23 ID stamp.
