Can anyone tell me the rank of these 2 airman and what is the badge sewn to the arm of the bloke with the dagger?

It looks like the Tätigkeitsabzeichen für fliegendes Personal. Your man was probably an aircrew member.

The man on the left is probably an Obergefreiter (three gulls on his collar tab) or Gefreiter (two gulls). The original image probably shows this better.

The man on the right has to be a simple Flieger, otherwise he would be wearing a sleeve chevron.
