Even clearer the photo wasn't taken in early '45. My gut feeling says summer '43. As you can see, it's taken in a rear area German barracks.

If it's part of an album then the other photos should give it context.

Agree. Documents exists. See the excellent Book from my Friend Dirk Schneider. But I highly doubt the Insignia was ever distributed and worn. At least, never saw it worn on period photo. L.

Could it be that the lower badge is a golden tank destruction badge, and because of the summer sun, the reflection makes it look like a different shape ?
