    Feuerwehr im Einsatz:Mercedes SLG

    The History of this Mercedes-Benz L3000 S ( F ) from 1942.

After all the reactions on my threads on the forum about the Mercedes-Benz LG 3000 Luftwaffe tanker and the Mercedes-Benz 170V Offener Tourenwagen from the Kriegs-Marine , I think here is one of the cars that has something for all of you.
See here the restauration of the car, the history, paper items and photos.

During the allied bombardements on Germany in World War II, numbers of large fires were coused, they turned complete towns into ashes.
Fire-storms that increased to an unknown force destroyng everything, to leave only smoking ruins

This Mercedes-Benz L 3000 S ( F ) Fire-engine dates from this time namely 1942 and was frequently put into duty during bombing raids on Marburg, Giessen, Kassel and in 1944 on Frankfurt.
Without interval was the set in of men and material, gigantic losses were sustained and a great deal of Fire-engines burned out or became buried under falling rubble.

Of the 25000 Fire-engines used during the war in Germany, in 1945 only 5000 survived.

On the 8 th October 1942, the Daimler-Benz AG Gaggenau build truck with a new-price of 22.900,- Reichsmark, was delegated to the "Landrat Marburg ( Lahn ) ".
The Firebrigade was in 1939 incorporated by the "Polizei", under the command of ( Reichs-führer der SS ) Heinrich Himmler , while the German Luftwaffe ( Airforce ) had there own Fire-Brigade organisation.

On the original licence-card ( Kraftfahrzeugbrief ), still present with the car, can be seen that the vehicle during the war beared the Police - Licence :
Pol 37763, the red "V" indicates the car was permitted to tank fuel ( Rationed ).

The number in 1942 was Pol 37763.
These "Pol "licences were used by the "Feuerloschpolizei" , Feuerschutzpolizei und Hilfspolizei ( voluntary fire-brigade ), all these services came under the same prescriptions.
In those orders was layed down how a Fire-engine should be build, equiped and worked with.

When on the 8 th of May 1945 the German Wehrmacht capitulated, this Fire-engine was captured by the American Army and after that again set in with the text: Civilian Vehicle Pool Number 227 MArburg Land, now with American-Hessen licence AH 975332 and HE 62212.
                      See the original licence-card.

After the restauration of many Mercedes-Benz Oldtimers this was the first Mercedes-Benz from the Second World War.
We found the car in Germany in very bad condition.
After fifty years, this Mercedes-Benz L 3000 S SLG ( F ) has been restored by us and 3000 hours of work were put into it,
We approached every conceivable source for authentic info about the appliance's working life, a great deal of help we became from Musea ; Technical specialists and Firemen.
Parts have we found in Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, The Netherlands , Norway and America.
By driving and preserving our authentic and unique Mercedes-Benz Fire-engine, we keep alive a chapter of Firefighting during World War II.
