    Then and Now

I got this pic recently and the statue caught my eye. With the name I did a quick search and lo and behold this statue is still there.
Don't now how many times it has been replaced or what, but still pretty cool to think then and now!!

It's a wonderful feeling to unite a period photo with a current one from the same location! Congrats, and thanks for sharing this! Any idea where this statue is located?

    Cheers,

    Br. James

Definitely the same location but I think the original carved stone eagle was replaced with a metal (bronze) eagle.

          Hi,

here some information about this eagle:

the composition of this sculpture, an eagle seizing a snake, is the official symbol of the mineral waters in the Caucasus. Made by the sculptor L. K. Shodki for the centenary of the health resort Pjatigorsk, opened 1st May 1901. According to the thought of the sculptor the eagle is personifying the healing power of the mineral springs, which overcomes illness and disease, which are symbolized by the snake in the claws of the mighty bird. The sculpture never changed the appearance. The first composition were made by cement. But during the decades the figure out of cement became shabby. So in 1973 the composition was casted in bronze in a factory for monumental sculpture in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). It was erected in the former place opened 15th Ocober 1973. The exact location: on the mountain Gora Goryachaya (Hot Mountain) between the pospect Kirova and the street Teplosernaya (https://www.google.de/maps/place/Pja...ad6f4a0bf09184)

          Regards
