    English Mein Kampf from Stalag

A woman contacted me to sell this, the story is that her father in law was in the British army, was captured in north Africa and sent to stalag where he acquired it.
I don't know much about these and was hoping for a little guidance as to authenticity and value.

      Hi Dante,

Quite a nice piece you have there! It was published by the main NSDAP publisher, Franz Eher. Since copies of MK published in England the the USA continued to carry the book's title in German -- "Mein Kampf" -- to this day, even though the text is rendered in English, it's interesting to see that the Germans translated the title, too.

Thanks to Gerdan for adding background regarding the POW camp at which this book was originally obtained -- also very interesting. This was obviously an attempt on the part of the German captors to do some low-key brainwashing of the inmates.

Thanks for the insight! Ive been told that a similar pow camp version sold for about $2000 at auction. Do you feel that this is a fair price for such a rare book? More or less?

My pleasure. As to an auction value for this book, I would have no idea as I am not a rare book appraiser. The figure you quote does sound a bit high for an issue of MK, and the condition is not great...for obvious reasons, considering where it was obtained. Perhaps you should contact a specialist with your question?

          Best of luck,

For this to survive is quite rare,POW's asked for these as the paper was quite 'soft' and made excellent toilet paper.John
