Polizei-Bataillon 312 :

Das Polizeibataillon 312 ging im Laufe des Jahres 1940 aus dem Polizei-Ausbildungs-Bataillon Innsbruck hervor. [1]
Es bestand aus dem Stab, 1.-3. Kompanie, einer 4. (schweren) Kompanie und einem Alpiner-Rettungstrupp. Laut Schnellbrief des Reichsführers SS vom 28. September 1940 sollte das in Norwegen eingesetzte Polizeibataillon 91 mit Standort Grong durch das bereitgestellte Polizei-Ski-Bataillon 312 abgelöst werden. Die Kraftfahrstaffel verblieb dabei beim Nachfolge-Bataillon. [2] Der Transport nach Norwegen sollte über Aalborg (Dänemark) erfolgen.
Einsatzort des Polizeibataillon 312 war die Region Narvik am Polarkreis. Das Stabsquartier befand sich in der Volkshochschule in Grong, später kam das Bataillon nach Spillum/Namsos. Zu den Hauptaufgaben zählten die Sicherung der Erzbahn im Bereich der Norddalbrücke und der Grenze nach Schweden. Weiterhin wurde die Ausbildung der Männer vorangetrieben, vermutlich um den späteren Anforderungen im Gebirgskampf zu entsprechen. [3]
Nach einem Tätigkeitsbericht des „Höheren SS- und Polizeiführers für die besetzten Gebiete Norwegens“, Meldung vom 26. Mai 1942, erfolgte laut Erlass Chef OrPo Kdo. I g/I A (1) Nr. 219/42(g) der Austausch des Polizeibataillon 312 durch das Polizeibataillon 255. [4]
Am 2. Juni 1942 wurde das Bataillon nach Garmisch-Patenkirchen in Marsch gesetzt und als II. Bataillon ins Polizei-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 18 eingegliedert. [5]

Langjähriger Kommandeur des Polizeibataillon 312 war Major Zühlke. [6]

It's pretty complex as there was a lot of movement and changes of police units in Norway. 312 we're there early on, then replaced by 256 in 41, they then become III./Pol.Rgt.26 and are later replaced by a battalion from Pol.Rgt.7. If you have an idea of date then it will help but if you can see Innsbruck on one of the police eagles then it hints at winter of 40/41 and 312. The reason i suggested 256 is because they were in the area the longest.
Incidentally, Pol.Geb.Rgt.18 spent about 6 months or so at the front in Finland in 1943 but was otherwise never in Norway.
