Looks like it might say "Kertsch". If so, the only panzer division in the Crimea was 22. Panzer-Division, and that would place this photo during Operation Bustard Hunt. The landscape looks Crimean (ie. absolutely devoid of any features). I'd love to see some more pics of this group, particularly from March-June 1942.

Kertsch, that makes perfect sense (will fix the pic later this week), thank you Jason! Many, if not most of the photos in this group are dated, so I think I can help you.
By the way, yes, it is the folded hatch. And the club is probably Zug sign, number of card symbols (club, heart, spade, diamond) differenciated vehicles. Many photos, including those taken by the russians, are known of this unit.Last edited by Akira Takiguchi; 12-09-2012, 05:59 PM.
