Can someone tell me what the structure in front of the children is for?

Photo was take during WW2 in German occupied Russia. Does the clothing the children are wearing have special meaning? What is in front of them? Thank you.

    Might not be Russia.

My guess would be an Easter/spring pageant looks like similar ones from Hungary/Slovakia

Will have to look in my big book of Eastern European Ethnology to give an exact answer

It's a Christmas tradition in Romania - The Star Carol - Steaua.
Children make a star using colored paper and then they put in its middle an icon of Jesus. Many of children decorate their star using shiny tinsel.

While holding the star in the hands the children sing:
"The star has appeared on high,
Like a big secret in the sky, The star is bright,
May all your wishes turn out right…"

Check my big-ref book not much on Rumania but I can confirm this is a X-Mass pageant from Rumania.
