    RK Award ceremony Hohenstaufen

    Hi guys,

I could use a little help with this picture. I think it is Bittrich, who is awarding the RK, but who is the recipient? Any idea?

Another question, does the photo look period? It is uv-negative, there is no maker on the photo paper, it is postcard size, but the pic is marked

who is a period photographer of that time.

    You help is much appreciated.

Otto Meyer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Meyer_(SS_officer) You'll need to copy and paste the ")" at the end. I guess a hyperlink doesn't like a symbol at the end.

I am pretty sure that this is Otto Meyer. Does anybody know if the photograph is original?

Yes, it's Otto Meyer receiving his RK from Willi Bittrich in Galicia in the spring of 1944, after the Tarnopol fighting. I don't have my reference books handy, so I don't have the precise date available. I'm also havinf trouble placing the familiar face of the man on the left. I think it's Hohenstaufen IIa Wilfried Schwartz, but I'd need to double check once i can access my books.

          Hi Daniel,

I don't think it is a original pre 1945 print.

Yes, the officer on the left is Hauptsturmfuehrer Wilfried Schwarz Divisionsadjutant (IIa). He was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 14.02.1945. The handwriting on the reverse of the photo would appear to be Bittrich's.

              Hello.
This photo published in Fürbringer Herbert. "La Hohenstaufen...". Also there are many other fantastic photos from the same RK ceremony. At photos also present other future RKT Walter Harzer, Ia SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Division "Hohenstaufen"
Also photos dated as June 1944 in Galizien.

              Andrey.

I don't know if this is significant, but the handwriting has striking similarities to that of Wilhelm Bittrich.

Agree. Definitely not a pre 1945 print.

                    Hi guys,

thanks for your answers. I disagree though, imo it is a wartime photograph. It looks like the real deal to me, plus this photo is at least 46 years old. The handwriting is indeed from Mr. Bittrich, he gave this piece to one of his soldiers.

It is definitely not a modern reproduction, as stated on another forum.

                    Regards,

                    Daniel

Could you please make a normal scans of the obverse & reverse of this photo?
