Hello fellow collectors

Well I am posting for the first time as a Association Member. I have a question regarding this EK 1 award document. Can anyone of you guys recognize the signature (name) of the commanding officer? Any help is welcome. Thanks in advance.

It is INFINITELY more difficult to guess which officer might be a document signer below the rank of General than for Generals:

Generals have detailed published command records. Officers can rarely even have their first names found.

The second signature appears to say "Kühne"-- but where does that bring us? There were TWO regular army officers named Kühne who were Obersts on that date. neither received a Knight's Cross or German Cross, neither made Generalmajor later. This "Oberst" Kühne could also have been an Oberst zV (no ranklists published for such war's duration recalled officers) or--though less likely at that rank--an Oberst dR (again, no published list). Furthermore, the 1944 Seniority list did NOT give actual assignments for frontline officers, but their affiliation as of 1939.

Of course, this signature might also be "Kühn" with a squiggly fluorish at the end, or "Kuhne" or "Kuhn" with a sloppily written shallow "u" mark versus a real umlaut over the small letter u.

Generals are MUCH easier!!!!

Hi Jürg,
I have just had a quick look through me references and neither Officer's appear as Ia or IIa, so they are most likely staff officers or perhaps Commanders of Regiments or Abteilung within those Divisions.
The EK I is signed by an Oberstleutnant with the temporary command of the Division (mit der Führung beauftragt), however he is not listed in my references....Dr.......?
The EK II is signed by an Oberst and representative of the Div. CO, he is most likley a Staboffizier....again I can not find reference to him either but I do have the 13 Panzer Divsion books so I will check these out....

It could be another case of bad hand writing!

The Division Kommandeur Generalmajor Traugott Herr was heavily wounded and command given to Oberst Crisolli, however through sudden illness the command was then given to the oldest Regiments Kommandeur......Oberst Dr. Walter Kühn (later Generalmajor)!!!!!!
This info is not dated but happend between September and October 1942..........
