Info needed for SS-Obersturmfuhrer Alfred Katzler #23 750

I have a document that is supposed to be for a SS Honor Sword issued to:
SS-Obersturnfuhrer ALFRED KATZLER
SS Nr. 23 750
NSDAP Nr. 389 336
Born: 11.02.1894
I found the above information on the internet, but, nothing as to his unit, assignments, etc.
Can anybody give me information for this individual? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chuck,

Not a whole lot to know about this person, at least from the early editions of the DAL (Dienstsaltersliste der SS). The last issue of the DAL in which this person is listed is that of 1.12.38 and that issue shows him holding the rank of SS-Obersturnführer; he became an officer (SS-Untersturmführer) on 20.4.35 and was promoted to SS-Obersturmführer on 11.9.38. He served in WWI, during which he won the EKII and the Hindenburg Cross (Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer), and by the publication date of the 1938 DAL he had received the SS Honor Ring and held the SA Sport Badge. Note: no listing for his receipt of the SS Honor Sword by the time of that publication. The entire time of his service as an SS officer from 1935 through 1938 he had been attached to Stammabteilung Bezirk 27.

That's all the DAL shows us about Alfred Katzler -- and it does verify his birthdate, his NSDAP Membership Number and his SS Number. Hope this is helpful to you.
