    Unidentified SS-Gruppenführer (Ritterkreuzträger)

    Hi,

i was unable to match this SS-Gruppenführer to any of the ones listed in the Kratschmer list.

He was awarded the RK (it seemed that he don't have the Eichenlaub).

I was unable to identify the cufftitle he is wearing too.

The picture was probably taken between March 12, 1944 and April 20, 1944, in the Ostland (?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    See You

    Vince

      Hi,

yes, so are so right, the ears are identifical.
Also he is probably wearing the Eichenlaub, as he got them on April 23, 1942.

I don't know why i passed him, because i tought of him a few times...

      Many thanks for all,

      See You

I agree with the ID. From the summer of 1943, Wuennenberg was head of the Orpo, and usually wore a Polizei uniform. Thus the photo is likely from the spring of 1943 or sooner.

          Hi,

yes Marc you are right, the picture date was amended as infos about it prove that it was taken between December 21, 1942 and July 1, 1943 (when Wünnenberg became the big boss of the Orpo).

Another picture from the same event in my opinion : Jeckeln and Himmler were part of the meeting, but to date i was unable to identify the location or date...

              Hi,

wow Max, this is what i call a precise date

Do you know more about this event ?

As i know that Himmler and Jeckeln were attempting the Wünnenberg event from which Wünnenberg is pictured, i went to the conclusion that the picture from the ushmm may be from the same serie.

It seemed that yes a big meeting took place in Riga on March 13, with officials from the Ostland.

Himmler flew from Lötzen to Riga on 13th March 1943 where he met Jeckeln, Wünnenberg and Fritz von Scholz. (There are a few photos of this in my photo book on Himmler.) Himmler moved to Reval on 14th March and toured the local area until returning to Hochwald on 16th March.
