Why would a member of the SS leave and join the Heer?

This Austrian man was a member of the HJ and the NSDAP and then joined the SS. He was involved in the Anschluss in 1938. He then went into the Heer at some point. He was killed in Russia in 1943. Why would he leave the SS for the Heer?

Family reasons? Or maybe he did something wrong so they booted him out...but the reason wasn't bad enough to totally get rid of him? Maybe they needed someone like him in the Heer...and felt he was more useful in that position? Spy?

Unless you can find some personal info about it...it's total speculation.

Probably some of the same reasons why some left the army to join the SS. There could be many reasons we will never know.

Probably an A-SS NCO who did his pre-war conscript time in the Heer and was then re-mobilized back into the Heer.

Would a contemporary German consider the transfer from the SS into the Heer a step backward?

            Philosophies change.

Maybe he couldn't reconcile himself with some of their or the parties actions after Anchluss? Who knows?

            Cheers.

No, the Wehrmacht was never regarded as less then the WSS by contemporary Germans

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you everyone for your input!

Where does it say he left the SS? He was part of the A-SS, and did his military service in the Heer. Even an A-SS General such as Heinz Reinefarth served as a Heer NCO.

Correct . He was in the ASS , not in the WSS .
ASS was on the political side as the SA or HJ and he had to go to the Army for his military duty .

Ok. I wasn't sure you could still be in the SS and serve in the Heer. Thank you!
