A Couple of Photos

Hi

I’m quite a newcomer to collecting but have already found a wealth of info & knowledge in here (I have been lurking since March).

I seem to have fallen in love with collecting photos in the last month or so. I think it’s got to do with the image of life at the time that they show.

Anyway, I won’t bore you too much to start with but here are a few of the photo’s I have picked up so far (I am afraid we don’t have a scanner so have taken photos of them to post. Unfortunately they didn’t come out too great as I haven’t got to grips with the work’s camera yet – oh well!)

nice photos, congradulations on collecting photos! it is truly the hobby of kings!

The last photo, the third one with the infantry out on manouvers, looks like 1938-1939.
I always love seeing these early infantry shots, where they have all the perfect summer equipment, those early light green helmets with both decals and also those white trousers.

Actually im not quite sure about the white trousers, can anyone tell me, were they just heavy duty work cloths that sometimes found their way into more formal military manouvers or were they something completly different?

Atomic- I have a number of pics that show the mismatch in uniforms. I feel that they are just wearing thier working whites, maybe they intend to do some labour during the day the pics was shot?????

I am intrigued by the mismatched uniforms as well. I have some other pic's where they wear white tunics and some where they are completely dressed in white.

It does make an interesting contrast.

Hello all,

Interesting thread. I have many photos showing soldiers wearing mismatched uniforms. Most of the time they are working around the barracks, on manouvers or doing drill. Sometimes they are in full whites and sometimes are wearing a combination of their normal uniforms and whites. Here are some pics from a I.R. 476 album showing mismatched uniforms.
