Panzer Double Shoulder Board Photo....

At first glance, it (almost) looks like an Officer Board over an EM Board (although no Officer piping on the overseas cap), but enlarging the photo clarifies that it is indeed a EM Board over another EM Board (the non-Panzer fellow sitting ahead of the Panzermann also has "double boards")....I know certain Armored Units did indeed - at different times for different reasons - utilize double boards, but if someone could refresh my memory as to the details it would be appreciated....

I believe it is a single enlisted strap with a battallion identification loop at the bottom giving the appearance of another strap.

My thoughts are that the shoulder strap is upside down showing the lighter grey side which is now on top and the Panzer black side is down..I have many portraits with soldiers wearing the boards upside down hiding their unit numbers.

Possibly, yet most Heer Pz. straps have black on the underside as well. Could be he is wearing field gray straps yet inside out or upside down (as you suggest) for security reasons, but not likely two pairs.
