    Thanks for showing this.

I visited Mittenwald for a day and night as part of my birthday 'treat' last year.

Are the barracks still there? I know German Mountain troops are still located in the area so I presume so.

    Regards,
    Chris.

They are still there, but empty, there are no MT there anymore. Only at the "Luttensee-Kaserne", which is now a school for the army.

I had my room in the building shown during my army-time, same as my grandfather before the war.

        Hello Gran Sasso.

        Thanks for the reply.

It would be very interesting to hear more of your experiences and your grandfathers. If you wanted to of course.

        Regards,
        chris.

Great photo. I was there for the 75th anniversary of the 1. Gebirgsdivision back in 1990 when I was living in Germany. I'll post some pictures later.

              Berg Heil und Horrido!

Probably the kind of conversation to have over a nice beer but how did your training compare to your grandfather, are there any specific training challenges (like the karwendal) and any anecdotes about your training or the area.

                Cheers,
                Chris.

Here are some photos from the 75th Anniversary of the 1. Gebirgsdivision in Mittenwald:

I'll have to dig up some others.

                  Muli vor!
