    Goebbels signed document

    Hello all,

As well as collecting Iron crosses I have quite a collection of documents signed by third reich notables and I have been looking for a Goebbels signature for some time now. I have just seen this Goebbels signed document going to auction shortly. I have done the necessary hours of research and the contents of the letter refer to a reasonably well documented event, Alexander Autographs are a reputable company and it looks like an absolutely text book example to me so I am keen to make a bid. However I notice this has been offered up for auction at least twice before so would like to know your opinions as to why this hasn't been snapped up in previous auctions - am I missing something or is it simply the price putting people off.

    Thank you for reading.

The lower end of the estimate is more than what I paid for an appointment/retirement citation signed by him, although not by too much so as a ballpark figure it is there or thereabouts and it is just an estimate. Depending on the interest and starting bid it could go for less.
The market for paperwork does seem to be on a downward trend at the moment so maybe people just don't want to fork out that much for a letter. You only have to see how many times the Rommel Soldbuch has come up for auction without selling to see that not everything will sell regardless of the interest.

I agree with Hucks -- the lower end of the suggested opening bid may scare otherwise-interested collectors away, even from a fine document such as this one. An original letter on Goebbels' letterhead as Reichsminister written to Reichsleiter and Supreme Judge of the Party Court Buch regarding an established historical event -- time-stamped and initialed when received, and signed boldly ink-signed by Dr. Goebbels -- is an exciting glimpse of that time and moment.

      Cheers,

      Br. James

My opinion is that Goebbels signature is tougher to find than the others of the "Big 4" (Hitler, Himmler and Goering) so any chance to obtain one should be seriously considered.
