Hello Terrence.
Here goes:
Wearable but unit created distinctions
Honor stickpin of the Tiger Formation
Smaller formations of the army, navy and airforce which due to their operational conditions could not count on the receipt of higher awards, created such themselves, taking care not to enter in conflict with the official state medals and distinctions.
Thus the Commander of the Coastal Security Formation of the Norwegian Westcoast bestowed the socalled "Honor Stickpin of the Tiger Formation". .
The Coastal Security Formation of the Norwegian Westcoast was in existence under this designation from October 1940 to May 1944. During this time span three Korvettenkapitaene were the commanders of this small formation. What the honor stickpin looked like is unknown.
The bestowal document for Matrosengefreiter Hans Roder adjacently pictured is signed by Kapitaenleutnant Hans Bartels.
The documents is worded:
In recognition of the dedication without regard to himself to the security of the sea area of the Norwegian Westcoast I bestow to ..... the Honor Stickpin of the Tiger Formation .
Signed etc
B.T.W. K.Lt. Hans Bartels received the Knightscross with date of 16.May 1940 as commander of "M 1" (minesweeper 1) and died 31.July 1945 when holding rank of K.Kptn. as of 1.Oct.1943.
