    5th SS Totenkopf photos

Hi, puchased some photos last year from a fellow member, thought they might be of interest. Not being too up on these SS battalions, can someone give me brief overview of this particular battalion please?
These are just a couple, have quite a few more.

    Thanks, Tony

            Hi Tony!
See this link for some heaps of information:

            http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=3319

What puzzles me a bit is the date where the photos could be made. AFAIK, the SS-TV units switched from SS-unit names to military unit names in XXXX [forgot the date], so that a Sturmbann would become a Bataillon (see sign in the background of photo 1).

Do you know anything about the identity of the people shown?

            Best wishes
            Florian

No sorry, I don't know anything about the people themselves, I have about another 8-10 photos where the same guys keep popping up, will post a few more tonight.

Hi Tony, the 5th SS Totenkopf Standarte came from the 2nd SS Totenkopkstandarte (Brandenburg) about 9-12-39. The original I/5 which went to the 13th Totenkopfstandarte in 11/ 39 and a new one was formed which eventually became the 5th Totenkopf Infanterie Regiment. Himmler had a lot of these Infanterie Regiments under his personal control until the war got going and them lost them to the Russian conflict. Hopes this helps some, Sonny

Thanks Sonny, that's a great piece of info about this group, probably not many of these guys get survived Russia. Thought I'd post a few more for interests sake......Tony.
