"Ausweis für Grabenkämpfer"

I have these two "Ausweis für Grabenkämpfer". Both are named to Soldiers from the 1.Infantry Division although from different units within that Division. Does anyone else have a similar from the same or different unit? These are the only ones i have seen for many years of collecting. The Mauter doc is single and signed by unknown Hauptmann. The Senkowski doc is signed by the Abteilungs Commander Wohlgemuth, a KC bearer, and belongs to a bigger Group.

Hi Petrus. Yes, it seems that these Ausweis (this particular Model) are not common so far. Here is mine, from the same company 1./G.R.1, established only one Day before.
The signature ist a "short" version of Hptm Horst WEISSENBERG ( German Cross Set.17th44, KC March 23rd 45). As the Captain had few place to sign, he signed like that... Compare with his regular signature shown thereafter.
So far I can remember, I only seen this Ausweis for this Division. The clue would be to identify the Insignia on the back Ground. At this time, the 1.I.D. belonged the XXXVI AK / 1.Panzer-Armee / Nordukraine.
Concerning the CCC represented on the Ausweis, it is just a warrior sign, but it doesn't mean IMO that the Bearer had received the CCC. My Ogefr. received the Ausweis on June 26, and the CCC more than 2 months later (Oct.7th 44).

Lionel, that is great helpfull info and good research from your side! I should have seen the Weissenberg signature, well done there to! The background is, as you write, a mystery, anyone who has a guess?
