I picked this up with some other photo's. Circa 1930's Germany. Notice how the family is very ghost like and you can see through the man's legs. I thought this was a double exposure(where you take a photo of something or someone but do not wind the film roll to the next segment of unexposed film and then take a second shot on the already exposed segment of film thus having two seperate images overlapping each other) but why would someone take a photo of grass and a fence by itself unless there was something behind where the family is standing. I know it's non-military but I thought I'd share it.

Why might someone take such a photo? By mistake? I've taken lots of photos of just scenery. Maybe here the photographer did too and just forgot to rewind here.

Thanks everyone for their replies. Now my question is: If this was a double exposure why do they appear to have their feet in the grass, cast a shadow as Tim mentions and only they appear and not remnants of a second photo around them? Seems really strange that the families image is very ghost like but the surrounding vegetation and fence are clear.
