I assume he's with his girlfriend,wearing traditional clothing. I looked in the Davis book and could not find anything similar, to the badge worn in the photo.I thought perhaps it's an ordnance specialist but the badge does not look like anything listed in my reference book. Also is there a reason that some badges, are worn on the left arm. The remainder on the right arm.

I believe it may be for a Richtkanonier (gun layer) which is worn on the left sleeve, there are several variations.
