RFSS doc for sale on Estand

Just curious, since I am not an expert on SS documents...

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...17#post6490917

Is it it legit that a document dated 1942 bears the stamp of a division that has been created in 1944
Is it possible that a duplicate was made late in the war placing an earlier date on it to match the original issue?
The signature and the paper look nice to me, but date and stamp are IMHO incompatible.

    Hi!

Absolutely normal for an "Ostmedaille". Sometimes there are more than TWO years between the official award date and the hand over of the real document...

    Nice doc!

    Kind regards, Peter

I think it could be okay. Lots of documents are dated for award date, not the date the doc was typed. Especially common are Ostmedals being backdated.

Posting it for future reference here since estand threads are deleted after item is sold.

Document issued most likely in early 1944 when SS Panzer Grenadier Lehr Regiment (16) was assigned to 16. Panzer Grenadier Div. “RFSS” under the command of Max Simon. Back dated of course as usual with these

              Great informations, thanks

I was not aware of similar delays in giving decorations. I knew, and accepted as tolerable, that one to three months were required for an EKII. I see that even the Waffen SS were not so efficient after all, if they took 2 years two bestow a so common service medal like the Ostmedaille

And exactly that is the point! Iron crosses are "individual" awards, and therefore given in much smaller amounts. The Ostmedal was awarded in large numbers at the same time! For the first awarded Ostmedals only the ribbon (and often only to officers) was given, because no medals were available at that time. A similar situation was the awarding of Africa- and Kreta-Cufftitles.

                Kind regards, Peter

Excellent Analysis from Peter. The Date in the center Part is refering to the Official award date, but seing Ostmedals Documents signed by a later Unit, 2 Years after, is very common, in Waffen SS and also regular Army, I have numerous example in my Collection. Lionel.
